On Saturday (23rd March), The Imaginarium will be host to TERREMOTO – End of the World Disaster Disco! We spoke with Max Galloway AKA Fontrodona about this immersive dance music experience…
Imaginarium: End of the world disaster disco! – Tell us about what to expect from this event…
Fontrodona: This is a concept clubnight to take the dancer through a start to finish journey of the apocalypse. TERREMOTO has a unique sound over the 5 hour set – the dancer will first come upstairs to enjoy sun-soaked festival music, only to find the paradise swept away before them as a deep synthetic sound breaks the levee. Look forward to a range of genres from Cumbia and Reggae to Jazz, House, Techno and more, presented with immersive decor and visuals.
Imaginarium: You’ve come up with a wonderful idea, how did it come about?
Fontrodona: In the not so recent past now, I worked on opening a basement Tiki bar, a family venture. With a room first built in the 60’s, Underworld Cafe had been sealed shut for generations – discovered completely intact! Formica tables, fake tree-trunk growing through the room, original brickwork, fish tank! This time-capsule was recently ripped out by new owners – progress never stops eh! Imagine that paradise, torn to bits by human ingenuity! It’s also 100% about the music. I’ve fallen in love with this sort of spooky heavy disco sound recently and wanted to showcase it properly.

Imaginarium: Have you created the visuals and decor for this yourself, or are you collaborating with other artists?
Fontrodona: This is a two-person show with lots of remote help from family and friends! Myself and my partner Molly have been hard at work bringing a poisoned paradise to you lovely people. We’ve been collecting… stuff for a while now and our living room is very leafy.
Imaginarium: When you’re not bringing about the apocalypse, what other musical projects are you involved in?
Fontrodona: In Leeds I’m launching a regular modern disco event, Step Ahead, at HiFi Club on 5th April with Dicky Trisco as a super-special first guest which is really exciting. This will be a joyous world disco stomper! I’m also 1/2 of Jute City Jam, playing regularly in Dundee. We’ve been getting around festivals a wee bit now too and are featuring at Riverside Festival in Glasgow in May.
Imaginarium: Is this a one-off concept event, or something you’d like to recreate in the future?
Fontrodona: I can see TERREMOTO rolling around again – things are only getting more relevant! I’ve really gotten immersed in the sound I have for this event over the past 6 months or so and I keep finding tracks that are perfect for the night – i’m sure there’s more to come.
